Down Syndrome: The First 18 Months in translation

These translations of "Down Syndrome: The First 18 Months" were done by the Down Syndrome Association of New South Wales in Australia and were completed in February. The DSANSW's work includes outreach to people in their community who speak a variety of languages. Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic were the three languages they felt most needed. The association's president, Jill O'Connor, spoke to me at the World Down Syndrome Congress in 2006 to propose the project; Helen Haigh of the DSANW coordinated the project with me, starting in early 2009.

Production of the multi-language DVDs is under way now in the United States and Australia. Please return to this page in the next few weeks to learn more about the project and the availability of these DVDs.

Many people have asked about the availability of "Down Syndrome: The First 18 Months" in Spanish, and I am pleased to say that project is also under way and also near completion. More details will come on that in due course.

In appreciation for the incredible effort, persistence and attention that both organizations have committed to these projects, Blueberry Shoes Productions will be providing several hundred DVDs with the alternate language tracks to both organizations. As the creator of the film, and as someone who is eager for good knowledge about Down syndrome to be widespread, I am grateful beyond words.
