Down Syndrome: The First 18 Months is the best, fastest, most up-to-date source of information for new parents. International and US experts, plus knowledgeable parents, give a view of the early years of Down syndrome that is honest, positive and practical.
Since publication in December 2003, more than 3,700 copies of Down Syndrome: The First 18 Months have been purchased in the United States, England, Mexico, Japan, India, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland and Singapore.
This film, and its companion, Discovery: Pathways to Better Speech for Children with Down Syndrome are changing lives in Ukraine, for example.
On behalf of the staff in the Speech Pathology unit of Orphanage # 3 in Odessa, Ukraine, we want to send a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ for making these two wonderful DVD’s about Down Syndrome.
Through our interpreter, we were able to convey these concepts into the Russian language. The staff considered the information to be quite of value to them and I was able to observe, during the translation, many were writing down lots of notes.
Olga, the Director of the Orphanage, also said to let you know that as a result of a couple items they learned from the First 18 Months video, they were able to get a young boy to begin speaking, who had not been talking before.
Obviously, they were quite overjoyed at this success and they wanted me to extend that to you. Please let us know if you have any more DVD’s like this coming out in the future ! I am hoping to make future trips to Odessa and would love to be able to take another of your DVD’s along with me.
Sincerely, John R Nickleach |

An absolute must have for all parents, families and professionals! As a speech & language pathologist, I have worked with special needs children for 17 years, and finally I have viewed a high quality product for children diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Informative, comprehensive and heart warming are just a few words to describe this excellent DVD.
When my daughter was born with Down Syndrome last year, I was initially too exhausted to read anything. I asked my mother-in-law to see if there were any videos out there. She found this one which was perfect. This video is full of great information. Most importantly for me, it was presented in a very positive manner. When a parent is in that early phase of learning about an unexpected diagnosis, emotions can be a bit raw. While watching this video during this "emotionally raw" period, I felt very hopeful and positive about my daughter's future.
As a new grandmother to a beautiful little girl recently born with Down Syndrome, I found this DVD to be very heartwarming and very uplifting. It gave me the reassurance that I needed to hear that my little grandaughter is going to be OK. To quote a line from the DVD...."you need to make a place in your family for the disability, and you also need to put the disability in it's place." The DVD is very informative and emphasizes the point that first and foremost...this is a child. I highly recommend this DVD to any family member who has been blessed with a Down Syndrome child. |
